Thank you, Mike, I appreciate the comment.
You're right - dogs are tough - I've taken hundreds of photos to get a few decent ones! :-)
If you haven't tried it already, you might try diffusing your flash when you shoot your black German Shepherd, or anything else for that matter. I've sometimes just put a white handkerchief over the flash to soften the light a little bit.

I found this sight googling Capture NX2 and blog, looking for a place with just this sort of info.
Thanks
Very nice photo.
Dogs are always tough. It is not just enough to get them focusing on the camera, you must get the lighting and the fur shine just right. I have a lacquer black German Shepard and any time I use a flash that is in any way direct, he shines a huge amount. I will try a polarizer but it is always a challenge..

Yes, I think the only reliable way to use a flash and catch the bullet would be to use some kind of trigger. There are several different ones on the market - I just haven't been able to justify the price, yet! :-)

I was a "Canon guy" for many years before switching to Nikon and I loved my Canons. They are both excellent cameras with little difference in overall image quality.
The lack of a good timer interface is my biggest complaint with Nikon. When the timer is used it should automatically raise the mirror early if mirror lockup is selected, and it should fire off all of the shots if bracketing is selected. It seems to me that is merely a software fix and shouldn't be that hard!

Wow that's amazing shot. I guess you can only stop a bullet with a flash which can't be too easy. I love experimenting shots like that.

I've got a Canon 500D and quite like it. But have used Nikon too and I must say in terms of picture quality I love the Nikon. There are certain features that I prefer on the Canons though. Such as the bracketing and the auto-timer that releases all three shots without the need to touch the camera. For HDR I like that more.
But I seem to find less noise on Nikon shots even smaller models like the D90 (comparable to the Canon 500D).
Plus the Canon being quite a lot lighter is something I like too.

I got a Nikon D80 as a gift in July 2008, I am still very much learning, but this is a truly great camera! It took a lot of research and comparing before I decided upon Nikon and I'm glad I did. Now, all I need to do is get better lenses! (and keep learning..)
