I’ve been looking for a good website to host my images.  I think I’ve found it in Zenfolio.

I wanted one that offered lots of storage of full sized images, reliable printing services, and a front end for selling prints. I did a lot of research in magazines and on the web, reading forums, articles, and reviews and Zenfolio was one that seemed to almost always get favorable mention. What tipped the balance for me though, was the fact they use Mpix for their primary print service. Mpix is also used by well known photographer, author, and magazine editor, Scott Kelby.

I’ve had two prints made, a normal 8×12 print and a 16×24 gallery wrap canvas print. Both were very well done, but the gallery wrap really impressed me. The print was perfect and it was wrapped on a frame that was about 1.25′ thick with a very nice black backing and attached hanger.

They offer so many great features, it’s impossible to list them all but here are a few:
(Some depend on which account level you choose)

  • Unlimited storage with upgraded accounts
  • Easy upload using plugins with several popular software programs
  • Different themes to customize your pages
  • Use your own URL
  • Reasonably priced ($100 yr. for premium account, with two cheaper options)
  • and many more

I’ve only uploaded a few images, but you can see them at  My Zenfolio, and at least get an idea of how the site looks and works.

If you’re interested, go take a look – they offer a 14 day free trial.

Another optino is smugmug if you would like to upload videos; otherwise zenfolio isn’t a bad option.

If you’d like to try out smugmug feel free to use this coupon code for $5 off:

Smugmug is a great service, for sure. However, Zenfolio seems to be a little faster and I really like the user interface better than Smugmug. Plus, Zenfolio costs a bit less – I actually moved from Sumgmug to Zenfolio, recently.

Do you find you miss the option for uploading video?

But you’re right it’s $40 at Zenfolio for the middle account (unlimited storage) vs. $60 for an unlimited video + picture account at Smugmug. However you can get unlimited photo only for $40 at Smugmug as well.

Have you noticed any difference in speed (load times) between the two?

I don’t do video, so that feature doesn’t matter to me.
Zenfolio seems a little snappier than Smugmug, but the main thing I like better is the user interface – it just seems easier and more intuitive – more user friendly.
    Thanks for coming by,
    Mike
